Families in Transition | Women's Resource Center

TAP's Women's Resource Center provides comprehensive crisis and advocacy services to abused or deserted domestic violence victims and their children who wish to cultivate a more healthy, positive, stable environment. Its staff provides public education to civic organizations, churches, and area schools in an effort to increase the community's understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, to provide knowledge of resources available, and to decrease partner abuse in our service area.

Victims are provided referrals to safe housing, to mental health and other human services, and to lawyers who volunteer their time to assist these participants through crisis situations. A victim support group provides encouragement and a place to process difficult feelings.

Love Doesn’t Have to Hurt: What is abuse?

Thousands of men/women and their children live in constant fear and pain as a result of family violence. The abuse can be physical, ranging from shoving and slapping, to punching and stabbing, or psychological, including threats or verbal abuse.

Remember: you do not have to be physically battered to be considered a victim of abuse. Abuse is any behavior that is used to intimidate or control another person. Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself.

Does your partner:

  • throw objects at you or destroy your property?
  • threaten to hurt you or your children?
  • restrain you?
  • constantly ridicule or insult you?
  • express extreme jealousy?
  • undermine your confidence or self-esteem?
  • make you account for every moment you're away from him/her?
  • manipulate you with lies, threats or promises?
  • force you to have sex with him/her?
  • accuse you of having an affair?
  • hurt your pets in order to punish you?

How does this abusive behavior affect you?

  • Are you afraid to disagree with him/her?
  • Do you feel you don't have the right to say "No"?
  • Have you stopped seeing your family and friends?
  • Are you unable to go out, get a job or go to school without his/her permission?
  • Do you feel you are responsible for the abuse?
  • Do you often feel depressed?

Any man/woman can be a victim regardless of his/her economic class, ethnic background, religion, age or education level.

Violence in the home hurts all children living in that home. For over 30 years TAP’s Women's Resource Center has assisted abused/deserted men and women who want to develop healthier, more positive lifestyles for themselves and their children. The experienced staff understands your situation and can help you STOP THE VIOLENCE invading your life.

We have helped thousands of people. All services are confidential and free.
