Head Start | Family and Health Services
Family Support. TAP Head Start provides support to families of enrolled children. Family Development Specialists work with families to help them identify and meet their own goals in areas such as employment, housing, education, parenting, and transportation. Based on family needs, Family Development Specialists act as resources for parents, providing information and linking them to services in the community.
Health and Nutrition Services. Head Start staff also help meet health and nutrition needs of children and families. We provide health screenings for enrolled children and referrals and follow-up to health care and dental care providers, as necessary. We also provide nutrition and health education to enrolled children and families. Children are encouraged to develop positive health habits in the classroom and at home. Nutritious meals are served at all Head Start centers.
Parent Involvement. Head Start is a family-focused program that works to empower families to achieve self-sufficiency and foster strong parent/child relationships. Training is offered to parents on many topics, including child development, health, safety, nutrition, and community resources.
Parents have many opportunities to serve as volunteers and community partners in the Head Start program. Some ways parents can volunteer are: classroom and field trip support, leadership development, staff recruitment and hiring, parent committees, advisory committees, and Policy Council.
