TAP Head Start’s St. John’s Child Development Center Receives Four-Star Rating

On December 13th, TAP learned that TAP Head Start’s St. John’s Child Development Center was awarded a four-star rating as part of Virginia’s Star Quality Initiative (SQI) for preschool and child care programs.  The SQI is a statewide effort to improve the quality of preschools and child care centers by providing each site with professional development training, one-on-one mentoring, funding for quality enhancement, and a star rating. This rating serves as an indicator of the quality of care provided at each center– a valuable resource for parents seeking quality childcare.

St. John’s is the first center in the Roanoke area to receive a four-star rating.  Most programs locally and across the state have three-star ratings; none has five stars, the highest possible rating.  These photos show some of the ways Ms. Darlene Johnson, Lead Teacher at St. John’s, supports children’s literacy development.
