Week of the Young Child

TAP Head Start set up displays of enrolled children’s artwork in many of the communities we serve in honor of the Week of the Young Child, April 11th to 17th. Several of the organizations who hung art during this week wanted to keep up the displays. These include the Roanoke City Health Department, the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op, and TAP Head Start’s central offices in downtown Roanoke

 

Parent Conference

Anthony Adams, TAP Head Start Fatherhood Liaison, presented a workshop titled,

“Fatherhood – Be the Parent You Really Want to Be”.

Dina Hackley-Hunt from Blue Ridge Behavioral Health Services provided a very popular workshop on stress management

 

TAP Head Start and Smart Beginnings of Greater Roanoke held their annual Parent Conference on Thursday, April 22nd at Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Eighty-three parents attended the conference. Several community partners and TAP Head Start staff presented workshops on a variety of topics such as Reading is Fun, Healthy Meals for Picky Eaters, and Budgeting. Feedback from parents who attended was overwhelmingly positive.

 

 

Roanoke City Skate Night

Roanoke City Preschool Programs (RCPP), a collaboration between TAP Head Start and Roanoke City Public Schools, held its annual free family event for Roanoke City families with young children on Tuesday, March 24 at the Skate Center/Play Zone. Staff from both preschool programs helped families complete RCPP preschool applications for the 2010-2011 school year. Community agencies were also there to provide helpful resources and information for families. 618 parents and children attended.
 

 

Belmont Child Development Center

On April 21st, Kristin Moore, a parent of a child at TAP Head Start’s Belmont Child Development Center, brought some pets to the Center so that the kids could examine them up close. Ms. Moore’s husband’s family owns Pet City, who generously loaned the animals for the morning.
