On Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m. officials at Total Action Against Poverty were joined by Kate Ellmann, Executive Director of Project Access, and members of Kate’s family to unveil a new service for TAP clients who seek employment. It is a project envisioned by an inspirational and giving person, Grace Gilligan Weber, known affectionately as GiGi. GiGi passed away at the age of 80 on May 30, 2008 following a stroke. She was the proud mother of Kate and John of Roanoke and three other children. GiGi devoted much of her time to her church, most recently to Our Lady of Nazareth in Roanoke, VA.
GiGi was well loved and had a kind and generous spirit. She willingly gave of herself (time, talent and treasures) to others. As a “classic” dresser (who especially loved Talbot’s), she often donated her gently used clothing to those in need. She especially supported women who were working toward self sufficiency after having been provided with job readiness skills and training. Her ever supportive husband Jerry, who passed away just five weeks after GiGi died, often assisted in the donation process. GiGi was a favorite donor to the Father English Center in Paterson, New Jersey.
GiGi’s contributions to the new service being unveiled by TAP have been supported by others in the community including Beta Chi Omega Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and SunTrust Bank.
