Western Virginia Education Classic

The 9th Annual Western Virginia Education Classic will take place Saturday, September 20, 2008. Virginia Union University will host Johnson C. Smith University in a game that will include great athletic talent, tailgating and marching bands.  The Johnson C. Smith marching band is said to be one of the best in the CIAA.

The football game will be played at the Salem Football Stadium in Salem, Virginia.  Salem is the home of the NCAA Alonzo Stagg Bowl.  City Manager Kevin Boggess expresses that Salem prides itself in hosting athletic events.  The astro turf field and overall amenities of the stadium is praised by the WVEC organizers.  This will be the second year the game will be played at Salem.

The purpose of the football game is to raise funds for the TAP This Valley Works Project Recovery dropout retrieval program.  .

Since the inception of the Project Recovery dropout retrieval program 658 dropouts have been located and returned to education.  This would not have been possible without the WVEC and its supporters.  (Click here for the history and success of the WVEC and Project Recovery.
