Purpose

Coordinate and facilitate services for participants within the VA Cares program.  Collaborate with other TAP programs, Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole and Institutional services.

Education Requirements

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associates Degree from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, and enrollment of eligible clients via outreach methods and referrals.

  • Conduct intakes for clients, compiles participant files, and schedule orientation and support groups.

  • Document all program activities, including individual participant files, referrals and referral outcomes, and prepares timely program and participant reports as required by Program Manager and funding sources.

  • Conduct follow-up which may include home visits to track participants needs and progress.

  • Attend meetings with other service providers and staff to receive and/or provide information regarding ex-offender participants.

  • Assist with support group and other meetings as needed.

  • Provide program advocacy in court and provide legal resources for participants.

  • Enter necessary data in Octopi.

  • Facilitate support groups utilizing approved curriculums for VA CARES and to plan, design, and implement special activities and events for participants.

  • Attend training as deemed necessary by the Program Manager and Director.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Program Manager. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of low-income, offender and ex-offender issues.

  • Counseling, collaborative development, public presentation and relationship building skill required.

  • Experience in working with low-income participants.

  • Knowledge of different services and organizations in the Roanoke Valley.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

  • Ability to prepare reports, and maintain accurate program records.

  • Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must have exceptional organizational skills.

Special Requirements

·  Must have valid VA driver's license and own transportation.

Salary

$9.00 to $12.00/hour
